What exactly is a Party Plan business?
A party plan business is a type of person-to-person selling where an independent consultant visits the home of a "hostess" to display unique products made by the company they represent. Generally the hostess has friends and relatives join the get together for a fun, relaxed atmosphere. The consultant will demonstrate the products for the attendees sometimes playing games or doing other activities that relate to the products and how they are used. At the end of the party the group is given the opportunity to purchase the products.
Independent consultants generally set their own hours and can work as much or as little as they choose. They earn their money from the profits generated by the products sold at their parties. Many home party companies have a tiered commission structure. When a consultant signs up new recruits to join the company they also earn commission an the sales the new recruit creates. The more individuals a consultant can recruit, the more money they stand to earn from their own little "sales force".

What does MLM mean?
MLM or Milti-Level Marketing is the name given to the type of compensation plan described above. It allows a consultant to be compensated for the sales generated by their "downline", the people they have recruited to sell for the organization. When researching organizations, ask what type of compensation plan is offered to its consultants. The plans tend to vary from organization to organization so it pays to do your homework.

How much does it cost to get started?
Just as compensation plans vary from organization to organization, so do the initial start-up costs. Generally the independent consultant has to buy their demonstration products to get started with their business. Depending on the product types sold, these costs can range from under $50 to a couple of hundred dollars. The initial costs to start as a home party consultant are generally much less than that of the costs associated in starting another type of business. This is why this industry is the business of choice for millions of Americans looking to become their own boss.

How do I choose an organization?
Take your time to research different companies. How long have they been in business? How many consultants do they currently have? Doing a little homework now could save you a lot of money.
  • Since the popularity of home party plan businesses has increased, so has fraud surrounding the industry. Keep an eye out for "pyramid schemes" cleverly disguised as a party plan MLM commission structure. Do not join an organization that asks you to pay more than what's required for your demo kit. Watch out for companies selling "new miracle products" that haven't even established whether there is a consumer market for the products. Chances are it could be a scam.
  • After you've researched the company, learn a bit about their products. Choose a company that offers products that interest you. Clients will be more apt to purchase a product from a consultant who believes in the products they represent.
  • Talk to an existing consultant. This is where PartyPlanProfits.com fits into the process. Try our localized search at the top of this page to find someone in your area who you can meet and speak with. What do you have to lose? ...besides a boss!
